When You Visit
Visiting a new church can be intimidating: What should I wear? Where do I park? Where do my kids go?
We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a new church, so we want you to feel completely comfortable when you visit. Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to contact us or talk with an usher when you visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
When are services?
Weekend Masses
Saturday Vigil: 12:10 pm
Sunday: 10:00 am, Noon, 2:00 pm (Spanish Language)
Weekday Masses
Monday - Saturday: 7:30 am, 12:10 pm (Saturday 12:10 pm fulfills the Sunday oblication)
When is Confession?
Confessions (Reconciliation) are heard every day prior to every Mass until 10 minutes before the start of Mass and by appointment with one of our priests.
What should I wear?
We are thrilled that you're joining us and want you to be more focused on the service than what you're wearing. To dress for Catholic Mass, aim for modest, respectful, "Sunday best" attire like business casual, covering shoulders and knees, avoiding shorts, tank tops, or overly tight clothing, to show reverence for the sacred occasion. Men generally wear dress shirts/slacks (suit is great), while women opt for dresses/skirts (knee-length), blouses with slacks, or dresses with a cardigan/shawl, and head coverings (veils) are optional.
How do I get to the Church?
Our parish is located at 121 East Duval Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202 at the corner of Duval and Ocean streets.
Where should I park?
Church parking is available in our lot across from the church on Duval Street and in the lot behind the church on Church Street. Metered street parking is also free on the weekend.
Where do my children go?
Children stay with you throughout the Mass. The Basilica does not offer child care during Mass.
I’m not Catholic, how do I know when to sit, stand and kneel?
There’s no need to be self-conscious about the postures and responses used during worship. Most visitors just follow the lead of our parishioners. However, our "Worship" hymnal located in the back of the church provides you with the order of the mass and the words of each prayer. If you don't see the "Worship" hymnal, ask an usher and they will be happy to bring you one.
I’m not Catholic, is it okay for me to participate in communion?
Communion, or The Eucharist, is the most intimate expression of our faith. Catholics believe that the host is literally the body of Christ, the true presence of Christ, transformed from bread by the priest presiding over the service. If you are not Catholic, we ask that you not receive communion. However, those
not receiving the Body of Christ and Precious blood are invited to come forward with their hands crossed over their chests for a special blessing.
