Update on the proposed renovation / restoration of the Basilica and efforts to ensure its structural viability into the next century.
You will have heard that in the early part of 2017 Fr. Ed, with the blessing of the Bishop, sought and received 3 proposals for Restoration and Renovation of the Basilica. I’ve recently met with 2 of those folks and next week I’ll meet with the third. I’ve also consulted with a company about the necessary Development Campaign which would precede any work.
We, in the near future, plan to initiate a ‘study’ to clearly articulate all the work that needs to be done, in how many phases, over what time period, and the ability and interest of both parishioners and those throughout the Diocese and the Nation who love the Basilica, to financially support this effort. The Church is structurally very sound ‘Good Bones’ as they say, but much work is needed inside. But not only this, an essential part of our efforts to physically renew and refresh the Church will be to ensure it is fundamentally more financially secure for the coming decades and able to regularly support proper maintenance and care. An important part of that security will be including in the eventual campaign, the resources necessary to retire the debt, completely, for the Hall Renovations. Lastly, we will also want to include stability of finances for the regular maintenance and care of the Rectory / Office, and look with great insight and wisdom into the future of the parish community and it’s needs, as we determine how best to plan for that future, in every way.
