Catholics in Ireland
Father O’Reilly told his congregation, “Anyone who has a special need and wants to be prayed over, please come forward.” So, Seamus got in line and when it was his turn, Father O’Reilly asked, “Seamus, what is your special need?” Seamus replied, “Father, I need you to pray for help with my hearing.” So, the priest put his hands on Seamus’s ears and then prayed and prayed and prayed with the whole congregation joining with great enthusiasm. After a few minutes, Father O’Reilly removed his hands, stood back and asked, “Seamus, how is your hearing?” Seamus replied, “I don’t know. It ain’t ’til next week.”
--------------
Maggie never went to church. She always promised to go but never did. Father Sullivan was astounded when she suddenly showed up for Sunday service. Thereafter Maggie was there every Sunday. Three months later the pastor asked her, “What happened to you? You always dodged church and now it looks like you can't get enough?" Maggie replied, “It's this new car of mine, they told me the warranty will lapse if I miss even one service!”
--------------
Sister Mary asked her students, "Does anyone know what we mean by sins of omission?" Paddy replied, "Aren't those the sins we could have committed, and now regret that we didn’t?”

Young Danny was waiting outside the grocery store while his mother shopped. While he was waiting, he was approached by a man who asked him, “Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?” Danny replied, “Just go straight down this street a couple of blocks and turn to your right.” The man thanked the boy kindly and said, “By the way, I’m Father Sullivan, the new pastor at St. Kevin's. I’d like for you to come to church on Sunday. I’ll show you how to get to Heaven.” Danny replied, “Right, you must be joking. You don’t even know the way to the Post Office!”
--------------
Erin told Mick, “If you don't stop snoring, I'm going to toss you out on your ear!” Mick asked, “Does it upset you that much?” Erin replied, “It’s not just me, it annoys the entire congregation.”

A young boy celebrated his birthday on crutches, so he couldn’t carry the cupcakes into school without help. His older brother, Noah, was asked to help his brother carry them in. “I could,” he said, “but I’d prefer not to.” Spotting a teaching moment, we asked Noah, “What would Jesus do?” Noah answered, “Jesus would heal him so he could carry his own cupcakes.”

And in this corner....
Legend has it that in 1670, the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany handed out sugar sticks among his young singers to keep them quiet during the long Living Creche ceremony. In honor of the occasion, he had the candies bent into shepherds' crooks.

In 1847, a German-Swedish immigrant named August Imgard of Wooster, Ohio, decorated a small blue spruce with paper ornaments and candy canes. It wasn't until the turn of the century that the red and white stripes and peppermint flavors became the norm.

In Indiana, a candy maker wanted to make a candy that could be a reminder of Jesus Christ, so he made the Christmas candy cane. He started off with a stick of pure white hard candy. The white color symbolized the virgin birth and the sinless nature of Jesus, and the hard candy symbolized the solid rock which was the foundation of the church, and firmness of the promises of God.

The candy maker made the candy in the form of a J, which represented the name of Jesus and the staff of the Good Shepherds. He then stained it with three stripes which showed the scourging Jesus received, and symbolized the blood shed by Christ on the cross. When you break the cane, it reminds us that Jesus' body was broken for us.

GOD'S "PHONE" NUMBER

Hello God, I called tonight
To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me
So I'll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.
Give me faith, dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.

I thank you God for being home
And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and fall.. !!!!!!!

Your number, God, is the only one
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you, God, for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You, too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!

P.S. Please bless all my friends and family too.

A Senior version of Jesus Loves Me":

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)

YES, JESUS LOVES ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(CHORUS)

When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)

I love Jesus, He surely knows,
I have often told and shown Him so.
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
(CHORUS)

Little Boy's Explanation of God
Written by an 8-year-old named Danny, who lives in Chula Vista, CA.
He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to 'explain God.'

EXPLANATION  OF GOD:
'One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.'

'God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.'

'God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.'

'Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.'

'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God.
'You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.'

'You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God! Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.'

'If you don't believe in God, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.'

'But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.

'A Few of My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'.  With a bit of twist for the Golden Agers among us…

If you sing it, it’s especially fun!!!

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillac's and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things...

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

  • Many can’t give financially. Don’t feel bad. Do pray for our needs.
  • Few can give to everything. Don’t feel bad. Do give as the Holy Spirit leads you.
And in this corner....
Years ago a church group passed a framed picture of the Virgin Mary from house to house.  According to the legend surrounding the picture, this same picture had been passed from house to house since 1938 and was passed through the 2nd world war, in secret for fear of confiscation, discovery, and retaliation from the enemy.

To add to the mystery of the picture it was passed on by only one person.  You gave it to that person and requested it be passed on to...and you would name the person.  This was the way it was handled through the years, the idea being to protect the people receiving the picture.

No one here lives in fear of being seriously persecuted for doing this now, and yet…

Let us pray for strength and conviction and in thanksgiving for the gift of faith given and lived by those who came before us.

Hail, Mary! Full of Grace!! The Lord is with Thee:

Blessed art Thou among women, and Blessed is the Fruit of Thy womb, Jesus!
Holy Mary, Mother of God: Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
