Catholics in Ireland
Father O’Reilly told his congregation, “Anyone who has a special need and wants to be prayed over, please come forward.” So, Seamus got in line and when it was his turn, Father O’Reilly asked, “Seamus, what is your special need?” Seamus replied, “Father, I need you to pray for help with my hearing.” So, the priest put his hands on Seamus’s ears and then prayed and prayed and prayed with the whole congregation joining with great enthusiasm. After a few minutes, Father O’Reilly removed his hands, stood back and asked, “Seamus, how is your hearing?” Seamus replied, “I don’t know. It ain’t ’til next week.”
--------------
Maggie never went to church. She always promised to go but never did. Father Sullivan was astounded when she suddenly showed up for Sunday service. Thereafter Maggie was there every Sunday. Three months later the pastor asked her, “What happened to you? You always dodged church and now it looks like you can't get enough?" Maggie replied, “It's this new car of mine, they told me the warranty will lapse if I miss even one service!”
--------------
Sister Mary asked her students, "Does anyone know what we mean by sins of omission?" Paddy replied, "Aren't those the sins we could have committed, and now regret that we didn’t?”

Young Danny was waiting outside the grocery store while his mother shopped. While he was waiting, he was approached by a man who asked him, “Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?” Danny replied, “Just go straight down this street a couple of blocks and turn to your right.” The man thanked the boy kindly and said, “By the way, I’m Father Sullivan, the new pastor at St. Kevin's. I’d like for you to come to church on Sunday. I’ll show you how to get to Heaven.” Danny replied, “Right, you must be joking. You don’t even know the way to the Post Office!”
--------------
Erin told Mick, “If you don't stop snoring, I'm going to toss you out on your ear!” Mick asked, “Does it upset you that much?” Erin replied, “It’s not just me, it annoys the entire congregation.”

A young boy celebrated his birthday on crutches, so he couldn’t carry the cupcakes into school without help. His older brother, Noah, was asked to help his brother carry them in. “I could,” he said, “but I’d prefer not to.” Spotting a teaching moment, we asked Noah, “What would Jesus do?” Noah answered, “Jesus would heal him so he could carry his own cupcakes.”

And in this corner....
Legend has it that in 1670, the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany handed out sugar sticks among his young singers to keep them quiet during the long Living Creche ceremony. In honor of the occasion, he had the candies bent into shepherds' crooks.

In 1847, a German-Swedish immigrant named August Imgard of Wooster, Ohio, decorated a small blue spruce with paper ornaments and candy canes. It wasn't until the turn of the century that the red and white stripes and peppermint flavors became the norm.

In Indiana, a candy maker wanted to make a candy that could be a reminder of Jesus Christ, so he made the Christmas candy cane. He started off with a stick of pure white hard candy. The white color symbolized the virgin birth and the sinless nature of Jesus, and the hard candy symbolized the solid rock which was the foundation of the church, and firmness of the promises of God.

The candy maker made the candy in the form of a J, which represented the name of Jesus and the staff of the Good Shepherds. He then stained it with three stripes which showed the scourging Jesus received, and symbolized the blood shed by Christ on the cross. When you break the cane, it reminds us that Jesus' body was broken for us.

Are things getting intense or stressful for you? Maybe you should try singing this version of ‘Let it Snow, Let it Snow’!  You might find it helps to take the edge off.
Oh the weather inside is frightful,
But the fire of faith is so delightful,
And since I’ve got no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
the stress is enough to keep me hopping,
Lord my batteries are running low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally say goodnight,
How I'll hate getting up in the morn!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All through the trials I'll be warm.

The fire of faith is growing,
And, my Lord, your peace is abiding,
and as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
For those of you with weak memories, or little time, it also works to just say ‘let it snow, let it snow, let it snow’!

Little 'Life Hacks'
  • Never lend any amount of money you can’t afford to be a gift.
  • If you are on a road trip with young kids…and they have to use the bathroom…stop at a hotel rather than a gas station, restaurant, etc. You can park right at the (often covered) front door of the hotel and use the lobby bathrooms which are usually empty and almost always clean.
  • The tag on a fitted sheet goes bottom left. So instead of trying to figure out long and short side, and always get it wrong and have to rotate sheet….just look for tag and put it bottom left or top right.
  • Don’t wait for your hard boiled eggs to cool completely after boiling. Put them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator while still warm. The moisture in the bag makes them much easier to peel.
  • If you 'hate' everyone, eat a snack. If you think everyone hates you, take a nap
  • Proofread your own writing sentence by sentence backwards. That way your brain doesn’t infer what you actually meant to write and you’re more likely to catch your errors!
